If you are sexually active, it’s possible you could have an STD.  According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), half of all sexually active young people will contract an STD before the age of 25.  STDs can be silent; they may not show any signs or symptoms, so you may not even know you are a carrier.  If left untreated, sexually transmitted diseases can cause severe damage to your body.

Getting tested for an STD is one of the easiest ways to take control of your health.  Here at Women’s Care Medical Center, we provide STD testing at no cost to you so you can get the peace of mind you deserve.

WHAT Is An STD?

STD stands for sexually transmitted disease. You can contract an STD through any type of sexual activity, such as vaginal, anal, and oral sex, as well as genital touching.  Bacteria, viruses, or parasites cause STDs and may be passed from person to person in blood, semen, or vaginal and other bodily fluids.

SHOULD I GET TESTED?

Only regular testing will keep you and your partner(s) safe.  It’s especially important for pregnant women to be tested.  Having an untreated STD while pregnant can cause serious harm to you and to your pregnancy.

If you are considering abortion, you should be tested for an STD, and treated if your test is positive, prior to having an abortion.  Pelvic infection is the most common complication of surgical abortion.  The presence of an STD increases your risk of complications after an abortion.
